Hot and Cold Packs

Hot and cold packs are very useful for treating injuries, and putting you on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.  Typically these are best used on recurring muscle injuries, opposed to a new muscle strain.  Hot and cold packs will provide you with muscle relief, and will also help your body heal faster, to prevent further injury in the future.  The combination of heat combined with cold temperatures is a tried and true method that will bring relief to any muscular back injury.

Typically these work using a chemical reaction that provides hot or cool temperatures, without the need for heating the pad or freezing it.  The pads will use an endothermic reaction by using chemicals that suck heat out of the surrounding area, creating a surface that’s cool to the touch that you can apply to the affected area.  Then to provide heat, different chemicals are used to produce an exothermic reaction that creates a lot of heat, that you can use to treat your muscles.  This technique is best used by combining both methods, to achieve the desired result.

Hot and cold packs are intended to use both temperatures together, in order to provide muscle relief, and to stimulate the healing process after an injury.  Using heat causes your blood vessels to expand slightly, and then applying a cold surface will cause them to rapidly constrict.  The combination of both provides muscular relief, and helps to naturally work out cramps, and other uncomfortable pain causing situations.  Otherwise you can also use only heat or cool, in order to resolve certain injuries.  Cramps are best treated with heat so that your muscles can work themselves out.  Aches and pain are best treated with cool temperatures, so that the pain is numbed and swelling is reduced.

There are typically two very common types of pads that can get this done, shoulder and back pads.  The most common areas where you will need relief are your shoulders and back, so one of these should apply to you.  The back pain models are usually large strips that are meant to be placed around your entire mid section.  Typically they are intended to resolve lower back pain, which is the most commonly presented type of pain.  A shoulder pad can be molded to cover only the top of your shoulder, or can be extended to suit your upper arm area as well.

A sporting goods store is a good place to purchase a wide variety of hot and cold packs, as they are common sports remedies.  But you can also find plenty of options at a local department store.  If the local prices seem a little high, you can also try the internet for alternatives.  Websites like PainReliever.com and Amazon.com are great places to start.  They will also have a lot of options for hot and cold packs to contour to any use that you could have.   That way you fight the pain, and start your relief as quickly as possible.
